Score

Programme note

Susanni is a simple setting of the anonymous fifteenth century text. My work keeps the unusual form of the text with its double refrain, using these sections as quasi-plainchant solo lines against held chords in the choir. The piece increases in intensity and texture until the final verse, where the solo and ensemble lines are swapped, leading to a distant and fragile ending.
